Moving Pt. 3: (hopefully) The Final Chapter

Went over to the old house yesterday to finish up the last of the moving process. Most of our things were already gone, we were mainly packing up the last few things (including everything in the refrigerator) and cleaning. I lived there for nearly two years (and my husband’s been there longer), but the nearly empty rooms no longer felt like home. The feeling of detachment that lasted throughout most of the day felt strange because I thought I would be more upset about leaving.

The sadness didn’t hit me until we were making one final check of our old bedroom and we looked out the windows for the last time. I’m going to miss living there, because  it was home for a long time, but it’s good for us to be gone. No more stressing about the cat-hating dog downstairs, the roommate’s bad habits, or the various house-related problems. And we can have a dog of our own at the new house. I might be getting a border collie mix puppy from the humane society, if she’s not adopted out before I call back in an hour or so. I’m quite excited about it, as I haven’t had a dog of my own for a couple of years.

Moving Pt. 2

Moving has not gone smoothly thus far. The weather decided not to cooperate Saturday and the motorcycle broke down en-route to the new house on Sunday. I took a day off work Monday to make up for lost time. Packed a bunch of boxes, loaded them, and headed out. As we went through a busy intersection, one of the boxes fell out in the middle of the road. Unfortunately it was full of recently purchased groceries.  We managed to salvage about half of it when the red light was in our favor. The rest was destroyed in the fall or by cars driving over them. All of the boxed and bagged pasta was destroyed, but somehow the spaghetti sauce in a glass jar survived…

Didn’t get to go to bed until about 5 AM. Normally I get up a little after 9 AM to go to school, but I decided to skip class and sleep. There’s still a lot of stuff left at the old house. Probably another truckload at least. I didn’t realize there was so much until we started packing it up.

The new place only has dial-up right now (and I don’t know the account info), so Internet access will be sporadic outside of slow periods at work. Comments will be returned/given when possible…
