Newest Hostee

I have a new hostee, her name is Raven and she’s a bit of a strange one. It might have been a mistake to agree to host her. Maybe I shouldn’t advertise for hosting on Despair anymore….. The site’s not finished, but she has several blogs up (although they lack dates and a way to comment). They’re worth a read at least.

Her site: Razorblade Rhapsody.
The only place she receives comments.

Cheesecake and Motorcycles

On a whim I decided to apply at the soon-to-be newest location of the Cheesecake Factory. This place is a Really! Big! Deal!, at least according to the employees of the mall that it will be located next to. The restaurant isn’t open yet, so they were doing hiring in a hotel located conveniently in a hotel next to where Daniel works. The two places share a parking lock. Went in and filled out the application. Hiring receptionist person comes over to tell me that I can’t be a server there until I’m 21. Sucks, but not a big deal, I also applied for front desk and cashier. While I waited, I watched the looping introductory video several times and browsed the gargantuan menu. Get called back for the structured interview. The interviewer was very rude and condescending throughout the entire interview. He even cut me off in the middle of a sentence a couple of times. At the end he says that I might hear back from them within 24 hours, and if I don’t, to assume they moved on to another candidate. They didn’t call back. I’m not disappointed, because if that’s the kind of people they hire, I don’t want to work there.

My other two interviews (thus far) went much better. The first was at a children’s clothing store called Naartje (sp?) out in Sandy. The store is about 110 blocks my house. My only two complaints about it were that the surrounding area was under construction making it hard to get to and that there was only a step-ladder to sit on. I would’ve been more comfortable on the floor. Should hear something from them later this week.

The other was at a major optical retailer and a bit closer to home. The next step is to get access to a (preferably landline) phone and do a personality survey. Tomorrow I have an interview to be a classroom facilitator at an extension of a university. It’s only a few blocks away from my school, which is pretty nice.

Daniel bought a motorcycle last week. It’s a 1978 Suzuki 550. It looks really good for being such an old bike and is pretty fun to ride. Unfortunately it started having problems yesterday. The thought is that it is probably a combination of the battery (which was completely dead) and the carburetor.

Space cadet reporting for duty

A few recent instances of the reoccurring affliction known as airheadedness:

  • Accidentally throwing away a Wendy’s tray along with the trash.
  • Almost leaving two of my three grocery bags at the train station.
  • Not realizing that I reached my stop until the train made the buzzing sound indicating that it was about to pull away from it.
  • Thinking about other things while being rung up at Sears today, with the result of being overcharged on a shirt.
  • Leaving the house on a bicycle, intending to lock it up when I get to where I’m going. After riding a few blocks, I realized that the keys to the lock were at home.
  • Going out to do a few errands, but mainly to put an application in the mail. It was still in my bag when I got home.

Luckily I’m not always that distracted. What are some of your spacey moments?

Also, new layout up. What do you think?

The fungi of my labor

While working on the WPR, I realized I needed some graphical representation of the rating system. Not finding what I wanted on the Internet, I decided to make it myself. I didn’t really know what I was doing, so I experimented until I came up with something that looked close to what I wanted. For something seemingly so simple, it took a really long time to make. I’m quite proud of it. Then I made some color variations of the same one.
