One of those things we may never know…

Why do cats attack pens?

Glow Time

The partner and I have been working on getting our business up and running. We’ve been selling glow sticks through ads and at big events. I’ve also been working on the online store which will carry more than just glow sticks! We went down to the Pioneer Day festival at Liberty Park Tuesday night. Brought along 200 glow sticks with the intention to sell, but decided to give them away instead. Much more fun than trying to sell them. Watched the fireworks show from almost as close as we could get after we gave them away.

I’m scheduled to take the library shelver test next week. Should be pretty easy, mainly just filing. I hope I get the job. Not too bad paying, 20 hrs per week so good for school schedule, and it’s at the library! If I get it I’ll be at one of the county libraries and not the city ones, meaning a bus ride to work instead of a walk or short Trax ride.

Audiovisual torture

I’m in the middle of two books: Fight Club and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. I hate them both, but I must be a bit of masochist because I continue reading them. I’d rather not leave books (or movies) unfinished though they suck. There are two exceptions to this rule, however, the first being Wuthering Heights. The first couple of chapters were so boring that I put the book down and didn’t pick it back up until it was time to return it. I eventually read the whole thing when it was assigned for an English class a couple of years later. Once I got through the drivel at the beginning, it was a pretty good book. The other was Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt (or something like that) by Anne Rice. Got about four chapters in before I gave up on it. Not one I’ll be re-attempting anytime soon.

Watched Suburbia (1996 version) the other night. It was awful. Supposedly a comedy, but it wasn’t funny. Unless you consider teenagers getting drunk and angsty, angry adults waving guns around at each other, and emo kids overdosing funny. To put it simply, it made Space Jam aka The Michael Jordan Vanity Project (watched in a bit of nostalgia the next night) look like a cinema classic.

What are your least recommended books/movies? Why do you hate them?

Metaphor?

Went hiking in Millcreek canyon yesterday. First wildlife sighting on the drive in was a female moose ambling across the road. A bit farther ahead were two butterflies doing what the driver of our car called their courting ritual. Basically a mating dance. We stopped before we got to them so we wouldn’t hit them. As we were watching, a gigantic SUV comes around us and ran over one of the butterflies (the other one got away in time). Quite sad. Possible metaphor (or is it analogy?) for the destruction SUVs are causing to the environment? I think so.

And another thing, the city council recently banned smoking in several locations (including public parks) citing air pollution as one of the reasons for it. Supposedly this ban was supposed to be just a “statement” and not enforced. However, a couple of weeks ago, cops rolled up on the drum circle at a local park with several cars and a paddy wagon to arrest smokers. All of these vehicles were left idling for several hours. What’s worse for the environment, a handful of smokers or prolonged car exhaust?
